Presque Isle Weekend

Where:Presque Isle near Erie, PA
When:August 20–22, 2010
Organizer:Lois Nicholson
Contact:E-mail, 330-668-3686

Multi Sport Weekend!!!

Come join us for a multi-sport event with biking on the flat, all purpose trail around the park. Swim in Lake Erie, fly kites on the beautiful beach with sand dunes. You would never know you were in Erie, PA, on Lake Erie!! There is wind surfing, a kite flying club on the beach with fantastic colorful banners flying in the wind. Rent or bring your canoe or kayak to paddle through the lily pads to Misery Bay where Commodore Perry stayed for the winter hiding from the British (even a little history lesson). Roller blade on the path, eat ice cream, sand volleyball, camp out near the park, nightly bonfire!!

Due to increased shelter costs, when you RSVP to me please send a non-refundable $15/ person deposit—check or cash. This will help defray the cost if people decide to no show or cancel at the last minute causing added cost for those people that show up and have a great time. In past years we have had about 30 people attend.

Camping: We will be staying at a family run campground called West Haven RV Park. They have flush toilets and coin operated showers, swimming pool.

Directions: Take I-90 east to Exit 18. This is Rt. 832. Turn Right off the exit. Go only 0.4 miles and it is on the left side of the road. The name is West Haven RV Park and the reservation is under my name, Lois Nicholson, at the group site in the back of the campground. You can begin arriving Friday afternoon.

Costs:

  • Camping is $10/night for each tent of up to 3 people. For each additional person it's $3 per night. No charge for children under 12. No Dogs Please!!!
  • Shelter rental is $90 per night and will be divided among everyone. At the most it will be about $5 per person per night, depending how many people we have. There is electricity at the shelter, several picnic tables, refrigerator, sink.
  • Firewood is $5/person. To help stop the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer we cannot bring firewood into PA.
  • If you are coming for the day and join us at the campsite it will be $15/ person.
Pay me directly when you arrive for any balance due.

What to Bring: Please bring your own supplies and food, or talk with other people to share. Bring camping gear, beach stuff, boat, music, Frisbee, bike, games, bocce ball, corn hole, volleyball, camera, beverages (alcohol OK in the campground), camp chair, paper plates, utensils, etc.

Food: Bring your own food for all your meals for the weekend. If you want to grill bring your own grill and supplies. Bring a cooler. There are restaurants within 5 miles of the park. In past years we packed a lunch to eat at the beach and spent the day or rode our bikes for ice cream and lunch.
